Building web pages with DreamWeaver
To create a new page: 1. If workspace is open, use File, New, Basic Page: HTML, Create or if you are looking at the opening screen of Dreamweaver containing the green bar: click on HTML under Create New in the center of the Dreamweaver 8 opening screen 2. In the Title box at the top of the workspace, give your page a title like John's Page or My Home Page ( this is not the file name for this page, it is the title which will appear in the blue title bar at the top of the screen on the page when it is published on the internet.) 3. Click on the white workspace. Write this: Welcome to my home page. It's under construction. Please check back soon. 4. Select the sentences, then use the properties panel at the bottom of the screen to change the size of the font to 24. 5. Click once on the white workspace 6. Hit the Enter key twice to position the cursor further down the page. 7. Write the word Assignments 8. Save your page as index.html into your first name folder (This is the file name of the page. All file names and folder names are lower case only with no spaces. The file name is different from the title of the page that you created in step 2.) 9. Open a new page: File, New, Basic Page: HTML, Create 10. Write the sentence: This page has links to my online computer assignments 11. Click Enter three times. 12. Open the Insert menu at the top of the screen and go down to Form, Jump Menu 13. In the Text: box write the word Menu in place of untitled1 14. Click on the plus sign above Menu Items 15. Erase the words untitled1 and replace with the word Home 16. In the box next to When selected, go to URL: write index.html 17. Click OK 18. Go to File, Save All to save both of your pages 19. Click on the index.html tab in the gray area at the top workspace to view your index page. (If your index page is not open, go to File, Open and open your index page from the first name folder.) 20. Select the words Assignments Page (drag across the words to highlight them) 21. To turn these words into a link to the assignments page, type assignments.html in the Link box at the bottom right in the Properties panel (near the bottom of the screen.). 22. Go to File, Save All again to save your pages 23. To see what your pages will look like on the internet, click on the F12 button (top right of your keyboard) This opens the Internet Explorer program and shows you what your pages will look like on the internet, but your pages are not on the internet yet. The pages have to be published before they can be seen by other people on the internet. Now that you have created two simple web pages, we will learn how to publish them to the internet. 24.
