In the Site menu at the top of the screen, choose New Site 4. Click on the Basic tab in the upper left corner of the window that appears. 5. Name the site with your first name only as it is listed on the class roster. Use lower case letters only and leave no spaces in the name. Don't put anything else on this page for now. Click Next 6. Click No I do not want to use server technology. Click Next 7. Click Edit local copies on my machine,… Click Next 8. In dropdown menu under How do you connect to your remote server? choose FTP 9. At the top left of the screen, click on Advanced tab, if a box pops up, click ok 10. Under Category make sure Remote Info is selected and fill in exactly as below: Access: FTP FTP Host: www.mrbenton.com Host directory: /period4/yourfirstname Login: mrbenton Password: com........ (the rest of the password is on the board in the computer lab)
Use passive FTP (this box must be checked) 11. Click on the Test button. If you have completed the instructions correctly above you will see a message that tells you connection with the server has been successful. Click on OK, then click on OK again, then click Done and you are almost ready to create web pages. Because of restrictions on student computers, setting up a Dreamweaver Site before publishing your web pages must be done each day before trying to publish any new work from within Bellevue School District on a student account. Your pages and other work will remain in your folders, but the connection to mrbenton.com must be re-established using the steps listed above every day. 12. When you created your site using the instructions above, a folder with your first name on it was created in your My Documents folder. Open My Documents now to find this folder. 13. Open the folder that has your first name on it and create a new folder inside of the folder that has your first name on it. This second folder is named images, use all lower case letters. Any picture or image that will be placed on your web pages must be placed in this folder first and then inserted from this folder onto the page as you create it. If you do not follow these instructions exactly, the teacher will refuse to ever help you with any questions or problems you have in the future when putting pictures, images and graphics on your web pages. If you don't follow directions, you are on your own. 14. You should now have a folder with your first name on it found in the My Documents folder on your desktop. Inside of the folder with your first name is a folder called images. If this is all true, you are ready to begin making web pages. If this is not true, you are going to waste a lot of time with Dreamweaver, and your teacher is not going to help you with it. Click here to learn how to begin making web pages.
