 In this PowerPoint, an amoeba, a blob-like, microscopic organism, engulfs and absorbs its food from its liquid environment.  Click the Slide Show button in the bottom right corner of the PowerPoint screen to view the presentation.

The pictures in the presentation were taken through a microscope at 100 power.

Students should be able to: 

1.)  identify the "food" in the pictures.

2.) estimate the size of the amoeba and the food item.

3.) describe the movement of the amoeba using new vocabulary

4.)  compare amoebas to other protists like paramecia and euglena

5.)  understand differences and similarities between single-celled organisms and cells which are part of a multi-cellular organism like an elodea plant
