Week 1: 11/3-11/7 We have begun learning about plants, beginning with seeds in petri dish "Sprouting Chambers." Students dissected a lima bean and many displayed good prior knowledge of the parts of seeds and their functions: embryo, cotyledon and seed coat.. We have begun using Quizlab.com for online practice quizzes. Students need to finish the four quizzes listed under current assignments by next Thursday. Classword for the Quizlab site is Benton followed by a space then the student's Science period (second, third, etc.) and the password is the student's ID#.
Week 2: 11/10-11/14 Books close this week on grades for the first quarter. Report cards come home in the mail in a couple of weeks. No school this Tuesday for students.
Week 3: 11/17 - 11/21 Quizlab has changed to MyGradeBook.com. Students use the same login information as they did with quizlab. (benton period number for username and student ID # for password.)
Week 4: 11/24 - 11/26 Students design and complete an investigation to answer the question: Do plants absorb water through xylem? Students are encouraged to be skeptical and work out ways to demonstrate support for a hypothesis, a basis for scientific thinking.
