As we discuss the characteristics of life in Science class, students are quick to realize that Life must have begun somewhere.  We talk about the conclusions reached by most biologists, based on evidence that points to life's origins in Earth's oceans 3.5 billion years ago.  Changes in each generation over the thousands of millions of years since then, and adaptations resulting from varying environmental factors, have resulted in the Diversity of Life that is the title of our first unit of study.
