Enrichment Projects

Enrichment Projects are assignments done outside of class, which extend students' understanding of science and their appreciation of the importance of science in the world around us.

Students must complete one Enrichment Project per quarter.

Due date for the second quarter Enrichment Project is Wednesday, December 17, 2003.   Extra credit will be given for projects turned in prior to the due date. Late projects will receive a grade no higher than 80%.  Students must work alone on this project.  You have to choose an experiment from the list below.

The 2nd  Quarter Enrichment Project:

Experiment and Lab Report; Complete an experiment from the list below at home after approval by the teacher and write a lab report using the format given to you. This must be an experiment, not just a demonstration.  In other words, you need to discover something from the experiment that you didn't know before you started. Begin with a question you don't know the answer to, then do the experiment to find the answer.  Grading will follow this rubric.

Here are the only possible experiments from which you may choose for this project:

Does one type of container hold the heat of a hot drink more than others?

Which color of light grows the tallest plants?

Which type or color of material absorbs the most heat from the sun?

What is the effect of gray water on plant growth?

Which combination of sand, humus, and gravel grows the tallest plants?

What is the best fertilizer for plants?

What effect does holding your breath for different amounts of time have on your heart rate?

(Note: these are not all investigative questions that you would write in your lab report.  Investigative questions include clearly defined variables - independent and dependent.)
