Mr. Benton's FAQ: Frequently Asked Questions: This page contains answers to commonly-asked questions from students and parents. 1. Can I turn in work that is late? 3. How is my grade figured out? 4. What do I do if I'm absent? 5. When or where can I get extra help? 6. How can I earn better grades on assignments that I didn't do so well on?
Can I turn in work that is late? Yes, you can turn in work that is late for partial credit of up to 70% during the first semester and up to 50% during the second semester. After one week, assignments will only be accepted if there are special circumstances, such as extended absences.
If you have turned in all of your regular work, you may turn in extra effort work as shown on the Extra Effort site. Points earned through extra effort this way may not be used to get an "A" grade for the quarter. Extra effort work will not be accepted during the last week of a quarter.
All assignments are worth a certain number of points. All points earned by the student are added together and divided by the total number of points possible. The percentage found by dividing these numbers is converted to a letter grade on this scale:
You can do several things to help yourself when you have been absent. 1. Check the homework website and the All Assignments page. 2. Check the Science notebook of another student and copy anything you missed into your notebook. 3. If there were any handouts given out when you were gone, get your copy from the folder at the front of room. 4. Check a neighbor's binder reminder and write down what you missed. 5. If you still need help, then come and ask the teacher at an appropriate time. You have one extra day for each day you were absent to make up your work.
When or where can I get extra help?
Tutorial is available every school day except Wednesday, from 3:25 to 3:48 with Mr. Benton in room 307. You may get extra help from your teacher before school if you make an appointment the day before.
How can I earn better grades on assignments that I didn't do so well on? Some homework or in-class assignments may be re-done and corrected for additional points. This will be announced when the assignment is returned to the class. Sometimes, re-writing of test corrections will be dealt with as a separate assignment, not as additional points on the test. Usually, test grades are final.
